The Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) is excited to announce the Whyalla City Council has taken on presentation rights for the March 12-13 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series event at Steel City Raceway.

The best Group Two, Three and Four racers will descend on Whyalla for the very first time on the national stage for what will be Round 9 and the penultimate race of the 10 round 2015/2016 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

Whyalla City Council Tourism Development Manager Liz McNeill said the council was pleased to be involved in such an exciting event for motorsports in the region.

“We are extremely excited that Whyalla will play host to this fantastic event,” Mrs McNeill said.

“Motorsports are incredibly popular in Whyalla, and we are pleased that we can share in the excitement of this national event, which provides us with an opportunity to showcase all of the great things we have in Whyalla.”

Steel City Drag Club Race Secretary/Publicity Officer Lia Kuhn welcomed the opportunity to host a high profile community event and said the club is excited to work with local Council.

“We are proud to work in partnership with the Whyalla City Council and to provide and outstanding community event for the region.”

This season the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series has grown to include five regional tracks as ANDRA Championship Drag Racing expands to new areas.

ANDRA Business Development Manager, Jennifer Harrison said it was great to see regional tracks and surrounding communities embrace the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

“We welcome Whyalla City Council’s involvement as these events are a boost to local tourism, provide exposure for the area on the nationally televised Speedweek TV Show on SBS, and also give many racers outside metropolitan areas an opportunity to race at a National Championship event,” she said.

“We’re looking forward to visiting Whyalla and Steel City Raceway for the first time. And the Steel City Drag Club should be commended on the hard work they have put in to recently upgrading the venue.”

Round 9 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series presented by Whyalla City Council will be held at Steel City Raceway on the weekend of March 12-13.
